Diamond and Emerald arrived Christmas Eve
A present from Mom and Dad.
We loved them so much from the start.
The best pets we ever had.
Diamond peeked her face out of the cardboard box.
She leapt out and peered about.
Emerald waited for Diamond to say it was safe
And then she ventured out.
The boys sat on the bench, still and sweet,
Hands folded neatly in their place.
And waited for the cats to come to them.
And the cats nuzzled their face.
Diamond was the adventurous one.
She was brave and strong.
She loved to jump and run and play
And even some things that were wrong.
She could tell when someone was sad.
She leapt in their lap and nuzzled
until a warmth spread through them.
When we left, Diamond was puzzled.
Diamond was a nice cat.
Her sister, Emmy, was mine.
She loved to chase my stuffed snake.
She acts funny all of the time.
She also had fun with Matthew's snake.
She followed Mommy around
And she laid on Daddy's chest.
And on the counter she bound.
Diamond died at the vet on a Monday night
Her sister, Emmy, was there.
They both have feline leukemia
Emmy does too, but we have love to share.
We loved Diamond until the end.
We will love Emmy, too.
And we'll see Diamond in heaven
Where we all will be made brand new.
THE END.
