2 a.m. my pager goes off and Petey's barking as he does when a call comes in. (Im a paramedic). The call is for a person struck by car just down the street from us about a mile. We pull out of the driveway and I can't see a thing, heavy fog and misty rain.we live in the country so theres no street lights. We're just crawling down the road, I'm looking for car lights or something can't see a thing.
Petey begins to bark frantically which he normaly doesn't do unless there is trouble. Something told me to stop and get out,told Petey to stay as I'm looking around I see a body laying in the ditch, I would have drove right by if it wasn't for Petey.She is a 16 yr old bleeding bad, I call my dispatch and they tell me I'm the only one for now the rest of the units are at least 15 min away, due to the weather, this girl is screaming, Petey jumps out and lays down next to her,she stops screaming as I'm doing what I have to do for her I see Petey's paw on her hand and snuggled right up against her and he stayed there till she was transported to the hosp. The girl was hit by a hit and run driver, she was walking home from a friends house the nearest house was 1/2 mile away very dark road even when it's not stromy out. She is alive and well today thanks to you Petey.
Petey never had any special training, it was his nature to be kind, loving and compassionate, you'll always be my hero Petey, I love and miss you so much......Love Dad
