The Legend of Zelda
by Elizabeth .........................................
I first saw her on a webiste. A girl said she could no longer take care of this sweet brindle colored doxie and she had to give her up. I emailed the owner immediately after seeing a picture of the puppy that we re-named, zelda, after my favorite childhood video game.
I picked her up and took her to my fiance's house to surprise him. He was already sleeping and I put her in bed, she curled up right next to him and fell asleep. He said he fell in love with her at that moment. We were engaged to be married and wanted to get a puppy after the honeymoon, but on a whim I purchased her and didnt regret it ONE BIT. We bought a house in a cute part of town, and noticed that there was a park a block away. We started to take her there, everyday after work, and she would run and play with all of the dogs, and young children. If there were no dogs to play with she would play with the kids. The children loved her, she would just run up and kiss them and chase them. The park was Zelda's favorite place to go.

Unfortunately, it is now a place where I am reminded of a tragedy that occured there. We took her out pretty late one sunday night, because we had been busy all day. We had taken her to our family's house and she was on a leash to keep her from wandering off. We got home at around 730 and the sun was still out. I felt bad and wanted her to be able to run around before we went to bed.
There were no dogs, or children for her to play with when that night at the park.It was dusk and barren. She had just done her business, when she saw a beagle across the street. The intersection was really busy but she just wanted to go meet the puppy. I started yelling for her, and screaming NO!! because I saw her start to run for it, and then a car going about 50 didnt see her and hit her. I screamed, she screamed my fiance ran up and we saw that she had been severly injured on the bottom half of her body. I was panicking and screaming and crying.
We ran home to get the car and took her to the vet, the whole ride home she was screaming and yelping. It was HORRIBLE.
We got to the vet and they took some ex rays and said that her pelvis had been shattered as well as her legs. We had to make one of the hardest decisions of our lives.
We decided to put her down. We went in to say good bye, she was still concious. She started to wag her tail when she saw me, and her eyes just lit up. She couldnt move her body. I started weeping immediately and started to pet her head. I told her to go to sleep and kept my hand on her until she took her last breath.
I cried hysterically as we walked out of the hospital. My fiance sobbed in the car.
We miss her so much. WE miss her excitement to see us when we got home. Her wagging tail, her loving kisses. Her morning breath. Her ability to sleep in as late as we wanted to sleep in. Her love for children. Her gentleness with them. Her adventurous spirit. Her love to run as fast as she could. Her love for the park and her taste for eggs. She was so special. No one had ever seen a brindled wienerdog. We heard that so many times. WE are so sad to have lost our little baby.We hope she is in no more pain and running her little heart out at her park in the sky. We love you Zelda.
