Chace
by Ellen Dowbenko.........................................
On that fateful day I didn't check the gate
The wind blew it open
You walked out
I had no idea
I realized you had gone
As I was walking on the snow looking for you
I saw you run across the road
I saw a car come zooming around the corner
I saw you laying on your back
I ran to you
I saw your tounge go pale
I brought you to the vet
I heard her say that there is nothing we can do
I heard a little voice inside of me saying he's not dead he's not
I heard someone shouting the same thing over and over again
I cried my self to sleep that night
Thinking about you and what I could've done
Then I realized at least you weren't crying in pain
I grabed at your fur and held it close
When I realized that nothing more could be said or done
I cried my self to sleep
I miss you very much and hoped that it wasn't you and some other dog
Maybe this is all a dream maybe not
Who knows?
