I'll carry you with me
by Grady
I remember your smile.
The good times we had together.
It was easy, for a while,
to think things would last forever.

But nothing in life is free.
There are debts that must be paid.
If I could take those years from me
I would gladly make the trade.

So I begged and I pleaded,
like so many have before.
You were everything I needed.
Was it unfair to ask for more?

They say everything is passing.
And all things must run their course.
And the world takes without asking -
without warning, or remorse.

Now I stare into the glow,
of a cold and lonely dawn.
I know you had to go.
I know I have to go on.

So I'll carry you with me,
wherever I may go.
Though at times it may be heavy,
I will gladly bear the load.
