Service Dogs!
by Helen Eschenbacher.........................................
I have a service dog, Sammy who is a golden English Cocker Spaniel. He is 9 years old and is graying on his muzzle and his step is a little slower.

So MANY bereaved people stop me and Sammy and tell us their stories of the pretty "babies" they have lost. They take comfort in hugging Sammy and talking with me. I listen and both sympathize and empathize. I have had three service dogs die of old age in their service for me..under my watch. A service dog becomes your best buddy in the whole world. He lives to protect me, help me, support me, keep me safe. He has been by my side for 9 years..never farther than a few steps away.

I just want to say that Sammy and I will always be there for you and your grief. We have strong shoulders and will help comfort you.

Don't be afraid to approach those of us with service dogs....We can get pretty isolated at times. Some people say "How lucky you are to have Sammy!" Then they apologize and say "I mean I'm sorry you are disabled but you do have Sammy." And they are right. I love this little (55 pound) guy!

Stay strong! Never give up!
