Dusty, the Wonder Dog

November 16, 2011 --- Dusty, the Wonder Dog
Today we lost a friend. Part of the family. A companion, a kindred soul. He was of the four-legged variety (a fur baby), but was more human than you would expect. He did not do many tricks to win favor, but what he did do, extracted amazement. He could count, he could tell colors, and he could tirelessly lift your mood to elation. He was a Gift!
Dusty came to us as an 8 ounce piece of fluff, all fur and belly, falling over his own enthusiasm. Yipping gleefully, and running at top speed, tirelessly through the house doing his "perimeter" checks.
Carrying toys, chasing balls and the only time spent not in motion, was sleeping with his "babies."
He traveled with us, guarding the motor homes, trailers and trucks, and our permanent home, from impending dangers. He slept with us, he shared joy and pain with us, and he was our "special" gift to each other. He comforted Grand-mom in her journey, gave her his own brand of love, and she reciprocated.
A constant companion of Dee's, he didn't choose sides, but I think that the fact that I controlled the "treats", he favored being near me whenever I was available.
A charmer and a character, he was loved by groomers, feared by squirrels and neighbors dogs, he was macho but melt-able.
When he wanted or needeed something, he "told" you in his "speaking " voice, and you understood just what it was he was telling you.
He was proud, hard headed and stubborn. He fit in with the males of this family. He was handsome, tough and gentle. He was "Dusty," the Wonder Dog and one of a kind. He was LOVE.
