Our Stephanie
by Jennifer Hanley.........................................
We adopted our beagle, Stephanie, in 2005. She was in a foster home thanks to a place called Castaway Critters. They had saved Steph the day before she was to be put to sleep in West Virginia. Steph had been found abandoned and malnourished along a deserted road. We adopted Steph and brought her home to live with us that very first visit. She was so energetic and beautiful. She was so loyal and loved to go track bunnies(even though we let them go). Steph was healthy except for a few ear infections which we treated with meds. A few months ago Steph started having trouble getting up and had a couple small heartaches. I prayed she would pass away in peacefully in her sleep. However she started having trouble holding her urine and she started having trouble breathing. It was one of the hardest things we ever had to do to put her to sleep. But by January 30, 2008 she was completley blind and deaf and deteriorating. So we accepted it was time for Steph to stop suffering and do what was best for her. She is now in heaven and I miss her so much everyday. She was like a child to me. I know we gave her a loving home these past few years and I know she completed our lives when she joined our family. But two and a half years was not enough time with her.
