My olly
by Jessica
My sweet boy, my shadow,
my morning light and evening calm
you were my heart in fur and whiskers,
my comfort,
my home.

In every quiet room,
in every still moment,
you were there
chirping soft songs, chasing sunbeams,
racing me to bed as if sleep could wait for no one.

You knew how to find me,
how to hold me with eyes
so full of ancient knowing,
brushing your love against my sadness
until it softened into peace.

You were shy and bold,
a kitten forever,
pretending not to want affection
but loving the game,
purring loud,
spoiled with joy and treats and my whole heart.

Even in your hardest days,
you stayed,
you tried,
you loved.

I know you left not because you wanted to,
but because your little body couldn’t hold
the depth of your soul anymore.
But our story isn’t finished.

You will find me again.
Somewhere, in another time,
in a stronger form,
with the same knowing eyes.
We’ll pick up where we left off,
because real love never ends—
it just takes a new shape.
