I had a dog that loved me
by Jill Marquardt.........................................
I had a dog that loved me!
I had a dog that loved me,
Not as a sister or a brother,
Not even as a mother.
He loved me pure and sweet,
And at my feet he did sleep.
I had a dog that loved me.
Protected me from the fights but
Me he'd never bite,
My savior through and through,
He and me stuck like glue.
I had a dog that loved me.
Protecting our house and yard,
I knew he'd never be far.
Always there with a kiss,
To keep him here forever, my only wish.
I had a dog that loved me.
My warm and faithful friend,
It was he and I until the end.
I had a dog that loved me.
Now he is gone and dead
and there is no more of his
Dog breathe upon my head.
But his memory is with me,
Even though he, I can not see.
To keep that memory with me, I will fight,
For we again will be together when the time is right.
Because I had a dog that loved me.
