Sheila
by Julia Szulerowski.........................................
Friday morning started as a usual Friday. I was getting ready to go for a bike ride, and Ralph was getting ready to take the doggies who bark for a walk. Sheila was her usual self, barking with excitement as Ralph put on her leash. They made it to the corner, and our usual noisy biker rode past, and Sheila did her usual lunge and bark....and that was it. Ralph had her on a short leash...he always did. She collapsed and died. :-( We think it was her heart. Ralph tried to contact me on my cell phone, I didn't hear it as I was busy getting ready to go.... he had to walk back carrying Sheila and with a befuddled Cobber coming up the rear.
She's been on medication for just over a year. I noticed on a walk the other day she was a little slower than normal but I put it down to the fact we'd gone out a little later. Yesterday as I was laying down new hay/grass in her little den underneath the front steps I noticed she was coughing...a sign she needs her water pills again.
Last night she was her usual happy self. Daddy was finally home from a week away. She'd had her dinner, enjoyed her treats and was hoping Cobber would not notice if she pinched his....
It's been a shock, we always thought Cobber would go first.
we are trying to console ourselves with the fact it was quick, and she died doing what she loved to do....*go walkies with daddy*.
Tonight was pizza night, and she loved sharing our crusts with us.
