coming to the end of my driveway
stunned to see you lying there
demolished as a walnut split wide open
vulnerable, lifeless in the middle of the street
gently gathering your bloodfur preciousness
carrying your collapsed body to safety
beneath the shade of a nearby tree
praying your spirit finds comfort and peace
as your blood is spilling all over me
we stay there awhile, you coddled in my arms
as I ponder the driver out there
whose conscious is no longer free
the one who refrained from acting upon
his own inner humanity
