My Baby Girls
by Kara .........................................
I got my first piggy, Squeakers, right after my puppy, Abby, got attacked by our other dogs. She was OK, but was sent to live with my aunt so she was safe. I was very upset, so my grandma suggested getting a guinea pig. First, I wasn't so sure, but after having Squeakers for a while, I quickly fell in love. My mom, two months later, suggested me getting another guinea pig, and Skittles came in the picture. I had Squeakers and Skittles all throughout 6th grade and part of 7th (which I'm in now). Skittles was laid-back, cuddly, and quiet, while Squeakers would tell her opinion, but she loved very much, as she licked my face everyday and loved to cuddle on her mommy's shoulder. I loved taking pictures of my piggies, especially them (I have two others, Hershey and Cuddles). I took very good care of my babies, by cleaning out their cage, giving them lettuce (they LOVED it) to munch on, and taking them to the vet's once a year.
On October 10, 2008, Skittles got extremely sick. We rushed her to the vet's, where she lived for five hours. She had pnuemonia, something very common in guinea pigs. Thankfully, Squeakers did not get it, but I lost my very best friend.
Squeakers had to take some time to adjust, and finally, she did. She got more laid-back and cuddly over those months. Her favorite things to do were to eat lettuce, be on her mommy's shoulder, and go outside with me whenever the weather was OK.
Today, actually, we took her to the vet's to get surgery, because she had bladder stones, making her bleed. The surgery went well, but right afterwards, she had heart failure. They worked on my baby girl for a half hour, but could not revive her.
Losing pets are the hardest things to do, but the best things you can do for them is love them to the fullest, and let them have as much fun as possible. Spend time with them everyday and take lots of pictures because you don't know when they'll be gone. But, even after, always remember them, because they were your best friend and they loved you very much.
I love you Skittles and Squeakers! Forever, for always!
