The solumn boldness of a tree
outlined by the clear darkening sky
seems to be the one remaining sign of strength
on this earth today.

Courage abounds
as that creature of nature
stands alone,
stands upright,
reaching out into the vast world.
Reaching out,
yet always ready.

If only I,
in my own faltering way,
could capture this quiet courage of nature,
Maybe I, too,
could be reaching out...
