Lucie's Prayer
by Kevin Glardon.........................................
The house is now quiet and not quite a home.
No sound of her footsteps as the house she roamed.
No food on the floor, no water spilled.
Has left my cold heart so thoroughly chilled.

A heart filled with ice breaks harder I found.
Then one filled with love all supple and round.
But the scar is the same no matter which kind.
The remedy to heal, a matter of time.

She gave a good fight with all she had.
But the deamon inside her had grown really bad.
I prayed to God to give us more time.
But to take her now as far more kind.

And when I knew her time was near.
The awful moment that you always fear
She grew silent, no more pain, no more fears
The only sound in the room was the sound of my tears.

She went to meet God, no more future just past.
And I had the honor to love her last.
She had the heart all supple and round.
And I had the heart whose tears just drown.

I held her tight and rocked her slow.
I wasn't quite ready to let her go.
I felt my heart break as I told her good bye
And closed the door so her soul could fly.

Her collar and leash are all I kept
A constant reminder of her loves true depth.
My time with her passed far to fast.
But my memories of her will always last.

She was more than a dog and more than a friend.
She would have died in a moment for my life to defend.
But she's the one gone and I'm left alone
To be in this house that's not quiet a home.
