GC the cat
by Kristen White.........................................
My cat, GC, died today. She was only 10 and she wasn't sick but died in an accident in our garage. She had so much life in her. She was a tiny little thing, only about 8 pounds. A tiger stripe orphan that I adopted from the local humane shelter when she was only about 6 weeks old. She had an upper respiratory infection that she had her entire life. She almost died within the first month of our adopting her but one of my employees and I lovingly nursed her back to health. She was SO precocious! I adopted her thinking I would take her to my retail store where she could be loved by my customers and employees. She would ride on the dashboard of my car, riding back and forth from home to work. That only lasted about 3 months because every night when we were closing the store GC would hide. I would spend hours trying to find this little tiny kitty who could hide in the smallest places. One time my jeans were on my bed and she crawled into the pocket to hide. I saw her little head sticking out of the pocket and I got a great photo of her. She loved playing hide and seek. I would cover her up with the newspaper and say "Where's GC? Where is she?" She wouldn't move an inch thinking I didn't know where she was. Then I would quickly take the newspaper away and say "Well there she is!" She thought she was being so clever!! She loved playing in shoe boxes with attached lids. She would crawl inside, I would shut the lid and sing "all around the cobbler's bench the monkey chased the weasel, the monkey thought was all in fun, out popped GC-sel!" And she would pop up out of the box....just like a jack-in-the-box. One time she was on top of my SUV and I didn't know it. I went to the drug store about 3/4 of a mile down the street with her riding on top of my car. And I ALWAYS drive well over the speed limit. When I pulled into the parking lot a lady pointed to the top of my car and about that time GC jumped down from the car in a daze. I would love to have seen the look on her little face riding up there. Luckily I was able to retrieve her and take her back home (inside the car this time). As much as I didn't like it, GC loved being outside. Everyone adored her because she had the most wonderful personality! She would go visit the neighbors and they would invite her inside their house. Some nights I couldn't find her to bring her inside so I would go knocking on doors until she was found. I worried so much about that little cat because she was always getting herself into a predicament. I won't worry about her anymore because she's in kitty heaven with all her canine and feline siblings. Good night, sleep tight little girl....until we meet again.
