Losing Link
by Kristine Steele.........................................
As your brown face faded to white and your ears turned to grey, they told me having you here would hurt more than having you away.
I don't know if I believed them, then or now, the fear in my face told you I didn't know how.
To go on without you was a path i couldn't take.
But I stayed by your side, looked into your eyes open wide
Then kissed your head, did you hear me say I'll always be your mommy, I'll love you forever?
This situation was our NEVER
I worried last night about where you were, were you cold, scared, and unsure?
Your warm bed was waiting, and brother anticipating
as we returned home, our hearts are breaking without you, we were so sorry, there was no cure
Your collar hangs empty, where did you go? Are you finally at peace, tip towing through the snow?
I hate what this means, I lost you for a final time. I'll never hold you, you'll never again be mine.
Did I miss something that could have saved you for one more months time?
We cried in the car reeling from your loss.
What do we tell the boys?
What do we do now, how do we go on from here?
What just happened, why aren't YOU here?
We know we weren't going to get forever, but that's what we need.
Any day without you, is a dark one indeed.
Love you forever my kitty-kins thank you for spending your life with me.
Rest in peace my angel, one sign is all I need....
