Hawk

Hawk

The pain I felt when you were taken
Has never left my soul.
I miss you each and every day
and never quite feel whole.
My goofy friend, your curiosity
took you roaming far.
Disease was not the cause of death,
but a neighbors car.
The rain was falling, the sky was black
when the call came.
My heart broke into a million pieces.
My world was never the same.
No more your golden eyes
would look at me with wonder.
No more would you lay with me
to keep you safe from thunder.
You were brought home,
in a blanket you were bound.
A resting place was made for you
in the cold damp ground.
It now has been 8 years ago
that your life was ended,
And never another dog
Have I yet befriended.
My heart still aches for you
My silly little boy.
I still hold the slipper
that you though was a chew toy.
My friend you are gone
never to return.
And even as I write this
the tears in my eyes still burn.
I know you are happy
and I know that you know too,
That no matter the time that passes
I STILL MISS YOU!

Mohawk (Hawk for short) was a Rhodesian ridgeback/chow mix. His eyes and fur were the color of gold, with a large, fluffy Mohawk running from head to toe. I miss him so much. It has been a decade and yet the hurt hasn't subsided.
