Now The Sun Will Rise as Brightly
by Laura Salem's Mom.........................................
The first poem from Rückert's Kindertotenlieder
Songs on the Death of Children

Now the sun will rise as brightly
as if no misfortune had occurred in the night.
The misfortune has fallen on me alone.
The sun - it shines for everyone.

You must not keep the night inside you;
you must immerse it in eternal light.
A little light has been extinguished in my household;
Light of joy in the world, be welcome.

*****
I remembered this song cycle because I had listened to it originally in college and studied it as a voice major. This morning the song came to me in my sleep words and music and it fits perfectly with not only my loss but the losses of countless others who are here seeking comfort on the loss of their 'children.'
I hope this poem touches hearts as it has mine.
