The hardest job in the world
by Linda Vergamini.........................................
I am a foster mom and take in cats and kittens from the local Humane Society to care for until they are old enough to be adopted. Unfortunately, sometimes things happen, and there are not always happy endings....
Last night, the vet had to euthanize 3 of my 5 baby foster kittens at age 6 weeks old. They were infected by a horrible upper respiratory virus, and their little immune systems just could not muster any more fight. They were suffering, and so the decision was made to help them across to the Rainbow Bridge.
I have learned from this experience that the bond you share with a particular cat or kitten is NOT a function of how long you have them. I feel just as strong a connection to these 3 little ones as I do to my own cats who are much older. I believe that caring for them, medicating them, comforting them; creates something very special, and something that cannot be totally understood.
I am grieving for them, but also anticipating the return of the 2 healthy kittens and mom. We will be reunited this evening and they will stay with me for 2 more weeks.
Please say a little prayer for Cody, Carrie, and Catie as they are some of the newest residents at the lake at Rainbow Bridge. Thank you!
