A Gift from Baby Boy
by Lisa Mahan.........................................
About three months ago, possibly just over, our dear sweet Baby Boy passed away. He first had an abscess which was successfully treated but then he got sick and there was nothing the vet could do to really save our sweet piggy, even after trying all the things he knew how to do. Well, about a week after we lost Baby Boy, I had an appointment and happened to walk right past this pet shop that I hadn't been in for awhile. I wanted to go in but I didn't because I didn't have my wallet or anything with me. Turns out that my husband went into that same pet shop later that day and he came home and told me about a pregnant female guinea pig they had there. I was enraged but then I calmed down, grabbed my wallet and ran out the door pet porter in hand and my hubby and I went down there. I took one look at this female and I could see how scared she was. I picked her up and she just looked at me with these huge brown eyes as if to say "Hi, mommy. Thank you for coming to get me today. I know you have lots of piggies already but I need a good home, a safe place to have my babies." I knew she was pregnant but didn't know how pregnant she was. We had her for approximately one week and as she still hadn't given birth and looked like she was ready to pop, I took her to the vet (aka the piggy doctor) and he took an x-ray and there were four babies inside Bella's tiny little body!! On 11/06/2009, Bella gave birth to four healthy baby guinea pigs; Fiona, Luna, Gizmo (three girls), and Loki (the only male). We were so pleased that both my hubby and I got to witness the whole thing this time and we were there to help her. It didn't dawn on me until later that day after I had thwarted an escape attempt by Loki, that they were all born on what would have been Baby Boy's third birthday. We lost our grandson not even a few weeks before these four came into our world and on what would have been his third birthday we gained four more grandkids...three grand daughters and another grandson. Call it fate or whever you want but I know Baby Boy was there with God, talking to Him and having Him direct us to that pet store that one day, to Bella (short for Bellatrix) and then these four sweet babies arriving on his birthday!! Thank you, dear sweet Baby Boy; grandma and grandpa miss you terribly. THank you and thank God for those precious little gifts; all five of them (counting Bella, their mother).
