Farwell, My Friend
by Lori Pipkin.........................................
Farewell,
My Friend

Where his cage once stood there are
Bare tiles on a kitchen wall,
Empty floor space not natural or flowing.
Entering the room, I pause, look a moment, remember and my heart aches and my tears flow.

I remember a lively rabbit, a 6lb bundle of joy and curiosity. My home was his home for 14 years.
His name was Bumper, Bumpy or just plain Bump. His cage was his haven, the living room his playground. He jumped high, ran quickly and chased dust bunnies under the beds.

The smallest of the litter, he fit in my hand with room to spare. Without a mom, I became his. Each morning, wrapped in a towel I held him close to my chest; he could hear the beating of my heart. He quickly became my baby as we glided in the rocker.

Now my baby is gone but still I hold him close to my heart. I will not forget how I comforted him and the comfort he gave me.

Goodbye Bumper,
My love travels with you.
