Muffin
by Lorraine Veriker.........................................
I had received Muffin as a gift when I was 5 yrs old. She was my best friend growing up through school. When I came home from school, I would get her and I a snack and we would curl up on the floor to do my homework. If I had a vitamin before going to bed, so would Muffin. If I had a bad day, I would sit there and tell her all about it, and she would look up at me with her big beautiful brown eyes and a white stripe between her eyes, put her paw on my leg, and in her own way would say it was ok then curl up to me. If it stormed outside we would cuddle together. Saturday mornings we would lie in bed and watch cartoons together.
When I graduated high school, I had my picture taken with her, as she had been with me since I started school. I went all the way to second year university when she took ill and had to be put down. Muffin was put down the week after her 16th birthday.
Every once in a while, her spirit will come and lie on my bed, as I see the indent of where she lies. I just tell her good night and she is gone.
She was a remarkable blonde sheltee, with a white stripe from her nose to her eyes to around the neck. Very friendly, loved everyone, and is very much missed every day.
