ODE TO BLACKIE

ODE TO BLACKIE
He came to visit one summer day,
and somehow we knew that he would stay.
His background we knew nothing of,
except to say that he had love.
He had a very gentle nature, and for a tomcat was a surprise,
but there was something strange we noticed,
in the wisdom of his eyes.
We didn't know as he was lying,
that our dear Black was really dying,
and from his fate that we could not erase,
the memory still lingers of his saddened face.
And now as summer begins again,
our task is to bury a dear, dear friend.
And somehow it's true, we now realize,
the LOVE that we saw through Blackie's eyes.
