Ode to Joy

ODE TO JOY

The very first time that we met I'd been feeling really low;
Because we'd lost our precious pet and still were grieving so.
In a cage was a ball of fur, a tiny touch of gray;
And as I felt your timid purr, my sorrow fell away.

I gazed upon your furry face, your grayness, head to toe;
My aching heart began to race and tears began to flow.
I welcomed you with open arms; you snuggled into me;
I gave in to your kitty charms; our love was meant to be.

You and your littermate were found inside a window well;
Your mama cat was not around, and only time would tell
If you two babies would survive --Frau Schultz to the rescue!
Under her care you lived and thrived, and that's when we met you.

No matter whether girl or boy, I wanted you, sweet kitten;
You filled my heart with so much Joy, and I was truly smitten.
We adopted you and Peace and claimed you as our own;
Our love for you would never cease; you made our house a home.

You were a quiet little cat with tiny, mewling cries;
You loved to stare at this and that with your expressive eyes.
You'd sit inside the shower stall and wait for "Mr. Drip";
Upon your head the drops would fall -- you really were a trip!

You were such a Daddy's girl; at him you'd always stare;
Behind his neck you loved to curl, and lick his luscious hair;
You reached for Daddy with your paws; you curled up in his lap;
You chewed his fingers 'tween your jaws, and in his bed you'd nap.

At mealtime to your bowl you'd race, for culinary bliss;
You always groomed your sibling's face, then wrestled with your sis.
You were our "floppy doodle doo"; so precious and so sweet;
We loved you so, our little boo; you were a special treat.

You lived a long and loving life, of friendly, feline fun;
Until the end, not too much strife -- 15 years -- a good run.
We're sorry that you suffered pain, but now you have no fear;
Our lonely loss is heaven's gain; we love you, Joyful dear.
