I just recently lost my dog Rebel on September 18th, 2010. He was a very loveable, crazy, funny, and most definitely a Rebel!! I got him when he was 5 weeks old, and I remember the days of when he was just a tiny chubby ball of fur, running around, causing mischief. He had that look of "but Mommy, I couldn't help but do it. I'm too cute to not get into it!!" He was part Husky and part Wolf, but so handsome in every single way! From the very beginning, he was stubborn, but such a Lover as well. He'd only eat the left shoes, and nibble a bit on your right shoe. He thought the cats were also pups, and he'd try hard to play with them. Both cats would beat him up, hiss, swat, make him bleed, and cry forever! He grew up into a loving 80-pound, still full of fun and mischief Baby-Boy!! The Howlies he'd do for his Aunt Judy, Uncle Chris, Aunt Denee, Uncle Brett, and those he held true to his K9-Heart, was such beautiful, nature-like music. I could tell when his howlies were of sadness or lonliness, and he'd gather his favorite "Aunt Judy's" toys around him, as to keep him company. The days of him yelling at me, because he didn't understand why I had to work or go to school, so I could take care of him were funny! Rebel couldn't go a day without getting his Loves or his Bellies (chest rubs and belly rubs)!! Once he'd get you to do that, there would be no stopping him at wrapping his paws around you!
Many times, Rebel was known to be "Houdini" in a dog's body. He'd break out of his kennels, plastic and metal collapsable. I don't know how he'd bust out of them, or manage to escape, without bending or breaking it apart. Once, I placed 16 padlocks on all the sides, doors, latches, corners, so he wouldn't get out of the kennel. That didn't last very long... Within two days, he broke the frame completely off, and busted out the door, which had 4 locks on it!! After that, I knew there wouldn't be stopping my Rebel from being held or locked down. Rebel was also a master-thief, even know he knew not to do it. He'd distract you away from your food, kitchen, or whatever you'd be chomping on, just to run back and steal it off your plate. It took me a while to realize what he was doing, mastering up a plan to catch me off-guard! The fish 'n chips day was absolutely hilarious, as was the "blame the kitty for eating the cat treats" too!! Judy and I went to eat, brought food back to save for later. We placed it on the counter, as far as it could go, where there wouldn't be any possible way for Rebel to get it. We left for a few minutes, and as we returned, walking into our apt, we found him eating the food. He looked up at us, shoved the whole fish and chips in his mouth, trying to swallow it whole!! He looked like Theordore Chipmunk, with all that food in his mouth!! We couldn't help but laugh about it, it was so funny seeing him do that!!
One week we were watching a friend's cats, and we had bags of cat treats all over the kitchen. During this time, Rebel had grown a bit more, and was close enough to reach the counters in our kitchen. When we came back one night, he was in the living room, along with the other cats, trying to play with them. On the carpet, there was an empty bag of cat treats, somewhat shredded to pieces as well. Both Judy and I looked at the bag, pointed, and demanded to know who did this. One of the kitten my friend owned, had to be about 4 months old. Rebel saw him, and began pushing him towards the shredded bag of treats. Judy and I both looked at Rebel, and said "right, like little Tiny-Tot could do ALL of that!" Tiny-Tot was looking at Rebel like, "what are you doing to me?? Don't push me, stop pushing me!!" Seeing how Rebel was, it was hard to scold him many times. He knew how to make us laugh, as I tried to scold him. Good times were always around, when he would do something he wasn't supposed to!! It was a constant laugh all the time, try to punish him, but end up laughing at you're yelling!! When Rebel passed away this past weekend, it was due to some non-caring person, who hit him with their car and kept driving. From this occuring, it caused his back to break, and his spinal cord to be severed completely. I had to put him to sleep, because I couldn't allow him to be paralyzed for the rest of his life. He was 2-yrs old, and still had lots of life to live. I am not understanding or grasping the idea of how cruel people can be. For someone to hit my dog, and not even spend 5 min trying to call me and inform what just happened, rips me apart. I do know that Rebel is in a happier place, without pain, and is running around like a mad-man in Heaven. He is now up in Heaven with my Parents, Brother, and other family members who have passed away. I'll always love my Rebel Without a Cause, no matter how many years go by! His memory will always live strong within my Heart, and I can't wait to see him when my day of Judgement comes years from now. Rest in Peace, my Rebel. Love and miss you!!
