A night that was hell on earth

Synopsis of the events of Sunday night, May 11, 2008

Baby's blood sugar, that afternoon, was 71. So, no Insulin was given.

Baby ate a dish of chicken.

A sub/q perfusion of LRS, app. 100ml, was administered to baby at 8:30pm.

About 11:30pm, Baby vomited suddenly the chicken food, then immediately fell down upon his hind legs, unable to walk. He was immediately unable to move, stand or walk after vomitting. He then defecated feces. He began to pull himself across the floor, unable to stand with his "paralyzed" hind legs. He also showed signs of anxiety, fear and pain.
His Glucose was taken, it was 328.
We imm. gave him 2u of Lantus, his usual dose. He was in a panic state, crying, and trying to walk/escape. Thinking seizures, we gave him .25u S/q of Metoclopromide, trying to sedate him, and lower his glucose. He was not sedated.
We gave him app. .19u more, trying IM.
We then bundled him up, and took him to bed. He was extremely agitated, crying, settling down for awhile, snuggling, then becoming "seizure-like" in episodes. He was extremely SOB, panting, almost hyperventilating, tongue protruding, but remaining loving- never attack-mode. But, he did continue to try and pull himself out of the bundle, and escape, crawling-like. He showed behavior that was never attacking, always seemed to be "trying" to settle down, but very anxious. He defecated on himself again, causing more anxiety/sorrow. He continued to stroke my hand, and wanted to snuggle. I sang to him, settling him down briefly...
But, the trouble with breathing grew worse, and I began blowing air into his nose, he began "sucking" air, and gasping terribly. Rasping, finally bubling sounds from his chest. Each breath sounded like he was literally drowning.
We were in a quandry. I would not, absolutely, relinquish him into anyone's hands except Dr. C. I did not know if he was in an insulin OD coma, heading that way rapidly, or suffering post-CVA symptoms, or if this was all due to hyper glycemic seizures, causing a "stroke. More insulin? Now, more glucose? Back & Forth.
I literally believe that our treatment, back & forth, killed him.
