In the light evening breeze
I listen for the sound
Of soft paws on the ramp
from our porch to the ground
I listen for you.
In the barking of other dogs
In that cacophony
I listen for that special voice
that always greeted me
I listen for you.
As the others return from the night's last outing
And they file in through the door
I look into the dark and call your name
But you don't answer anymore
I wait for you.
When I wake in the morning
I see an empty space.
And I touch a cold pillow that should be warm
And I wait for your kiss on my face
I miss you.
I listen for you.
I wait for you.
I miss you.
I will always miss you.
