Charly
by Mia Shanks.........................................
As a young child I have loved animals and had lots of pets. One day my grandma picked me up from school and took me to the league city animal shelter. There I met him a timid little red dachshund. He was scared of new people loved the outdoors and protective. I loved him!!!! When we brought him home that protectiveness kicked in and the timid was gone for good. I had a bratty older sister and an annoying little brother constantly poking me. My dog the newly named Charly made it all stop, one way or another.
But before Charly came along my parents were always fighting and debating over a divorse, and the worst part was when ever it got nasty was around my birth day. This charade went around for three years. Charly was the only one who would listen and calm me down. When it was finally over it was decided I would live with my mom who moved out to Tomball. Charly came with me from our suburban home in clear lake to our two acres in Tomball. After about four weeks in our new home and school starting we thought that the neighbors dogs were fine with our dogs. Until one faithful Sunday morning when there pit mix and lab mix attacked Charly. I can still hear my sister screaming Charly's hurt and seeing him with blood all over his fur and the pain in his eyes as I knelt down to hold his shaking body. We drove as fast as we could to the animal hospital were I knew he would be fine. My mom told us he was having surgery and that he would be fine. An hour later she told us he didn't make it, it wasn't until two days later that I got the truth. Charly's organs were shutting down he was put down. I promised him physically that no matter what he would never be put down. I let him down on his death bed. One of the other worst parts is the layer of false hope givin to us by my mom. And I am on this sight now trying to figure out where he is know because my mom never asked what happened to my daughter in sixth grades best friend.
