My wife and I adopted Fred in Oct. 1995. We had just gotten married the year before and had purchased a home. Fred was the perfect addition before we would have any kids. The first night home, Fred chased one of our cats down the dark basement stairs, which he didn't
know were there, and took a tumble. All I saw was a white belly heading down in the dark. I felt awful. He was ok but didn't go down those stairs till we had finished the basement.
Ever since then, Fred has been a great dog. Never growling or snapping at anyone. He would sleep on the couch we me at night while watching T.V., and sometimes sleep with me in our waterbed. We went to the park for walks alot and he loved that. He also had a special place in his heart for my father. We he would come over, Fred would go nutts. Howling had jumping around like a crazy dog. I could go on and on with stories about Fred but I think you get the idea on how special my buddy was to me and our family.
Yesterday, Fred saddly was put to sleep. It broke my heart in two. I was there in the room when the Vet put him down. I had such a hard time leaving him there. Fred could not walk anymore and had lost a lot of weight. He was almost 14 years old. He also had a large fatty cyst on his side. About the size of a mellon. I felt so bad for him, but he moved around great with it. Fred was the best.
Fred crossed over the Rainbow Bridge 6-18-09 at around 10:30am.
