Jager the English Bulldog
by Mike .........................................
Jager was a rescue bulldog that came to join us in November of 2012. He was purchased by a person that I work with for her son in law. This man was not good to this little fella. His first home was a place where he was beaten until he defecated and was also verbally abused. After his owner decided he no longer wanted this pup, he was shipped to another home. His time at the second home was not much better. There were children there who grew to be allergic to him so he was consequently forced to live outside in the extreme heat and cold. (An environment not conducive for English bulldogs) These second owners shipped him back to his original buyer. This fine lady told me about him and his story. My partner and I agreed to meet her and see how it would work out bringing another dog into our home when we already had an English bulldog.

We met at the designated rendezvous place and it was love at first sight. We scooped him up and put him in the back seat with our other baby. He had swelling in his ears, skin infection and pus draining from his nose from lack of care. Let me tell you also that the smell of this little guy was just as bad as he looked. We took him home, bathed him and immediately went to work on his nose to make him more comfortable and made an appointment with the vet to get him on antibiotics for his ailments. After much work and love we got him into great physical condition.

Jager, or Bubbie as we liked to call him was the perfect little boy and he knew he had hit the bulldog lottery. We also had hit the lottery with him. He was so loving and loved to go for rides, no matter where he was going. He loved to go to work with his daddy and sit under the desk and wait at the door for his other daddy to come home from work. When he would see the headlights he would get very excited and jump and bark for the door to be opened so he could run out to the car.

Over the course of the next nine months we fell more and more in love with this little guy. One evening, we noticed that Bubbie was having swelling in his neck. We took him to the vet where he was examined and it was determined that he was in the early stages of lymphoma cancer and that there was really no treatment that would cure him of this. The vet advised us that a biopsy of one of the nodules in his neck could be done but that would only tell us that he either had three months to live or six months to live. We decided not to put him through the pain of surgery since the vet also advised that he would not be the same pup after surgery and the discomfort he would endure. Left untreated, he was given three to four months to live. The already spoiled pup was now even more spoiled than before. He was given treats, taken on trips and went for a ride any time he wanted to go.

Four months after his diagnosis, he began to have difficulty breathing and was not able to sleep. We then decided it was time for him to go to the Rainbow Bridge. This was a very hard and sad day for us. We called his vet and met her at her office. Upon arrival he was very excited to see all of the staff there who he loved. With a daddy on each side of him, he was placed on the exam table where he kissed us both on the cheek and was given his medicine and went promptly and quiely to sleep in our arms.

We are were very blessed to have been given the opportunity to give and receive lots of love from our little Bubbie for 13 months. We only wish it could have been longer. He is missed so much by both of his daddys and even his sister Betty. It is nice to know that our little Bubbie is waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge.
