My mom's tears
by Ming Mejicano.........................................
My mom was so very sad when I passed. She understood that I had to go but she missed me so much. When I had good days, she used to pick me up and throw me over her shoulder. I dug my claws in a little, not because I was scared, but because it was my way of telling her how much I loved those special moments and being close to her. A few days after I gently slid onto the bridge, leaving her behind, I thought I had better do something special for her. She was sadder than I had ever seen her and it was all because of my passing. How sweet she was, planting some beautiful flowers outside my favorite window with tears streaming down her face. There was no one she could talk to who would understand. When she cried for whatever reason when I was still on the earth, I would rub her face dry with the side of my head. That always made her laugh, which made me feel better too. But I couldn't quite reach her face from the bridge - how could I reach out to her? She sighed and picked up the hose to water those pretty flowers she planted, and suddenly I got it! I changed the angle of the water just so, no, just a bit more and there - a beautiful rainbow coming from the garden hose! How could she not realize that it was from me??? She looked up into the crystal blue sky, then back at the rainbow coming from the hose and she smiled. And you know what? Looking back through that rainbow, her smile was so beautiful to me. Just this one time more mom, let me dig my little claws into your shoulder so you can feel my presence. I haven't left you - and I never will.
