My Pooh Bear
by Nakia Thompson.........................................
Baku always made me smile. She was born on christmas day, 2008 to my two adult American Bulldogs. I fell in love with her right from the start. She was goofy and loveable and had the same personality as myself; anxious and worried all the time! She spent her mornings crashed out in the bed with me, her head on my pillow or in my lap. She always looked so pathetic, like she had been caught doing something. Yesterday, I got a call from my husband while I was at work telling me that Baku was in the backyard, and that she had been shot. I rushed home in tears, to find her against the fence, a hole in her chest, and her barely breathing. She was literally drowning in her own blood.I held her head up and heard her breathing coming slow and barely audible. She was covered in her own feces, and she had flies around her. I put her carefully on a sheet and took her inside. I laid down beside her and laid my tear stained face on her muzzle. I told her I was sorry and let her know that mommie loved her more than anything. After a minute, I looked into her eyes again and told her it was ok to let go now, that I understood and I loved her. She huffed one final goodbye into my ear, and then she was gone. The pain I feel is almost unbearable, but I try to find hope in the fact that one day I will see her goofy smile again, and she will give me that special 'pooh bear' look. I miss you terribly Baku, and I am sorry I was not there when you were scared to death and in pain. I hope you know it was not on purpose, and I would never desert you. Mommie loves you more than anything and will always have you in her heart. Until we meet again Pooh Bear!
