Luckey in the snow
by Norman Wallace.........................................
Oh Lucky, I stepped out on the porch this morning and scanned the back yard. A light snow had fallen and the morning sun cast a pink glow over it. Here and there crystals would glitter in the light as Chick-a-Dee stuttered its small song.
You seemed to be there and I leaned forward as if trying to see you. These were the mornings you loved. Your Golden Lab and Artic wolf mix made this type of morning just for you.
As my eyes began to mist the tears froze as if to linger on your memory. I began to whistle the call that would bring you at full gallop to my side. I would stop and listen but could not hear your foot fall. I would lift my head and howl in grief hoping to draw you hear.
More than I can bear it seems. Remembering how I took you north to your home in Canada where you were born. Kneeling next to your grave and weeping like a child. I will see you again my old friend and we will dance beside the streams and mountains we loved. Just you and me... in the snow.
