The Old Man, The Dog and The Horse
by Patricia Shaskin.........................................
I can tell you a great story about animals in heaven. see, this old man died. when he crossed over he suddenly found himself walking on a country road on a beautiful summer day. as he walked along, he came to a big yellow dog waiting by the side of the road. when the man got close, he realized it was his dog that had passed over years before. the dog greeted the man with much joy and kisses and tail wagging. so now the two continued walking down the road. after a while they saw a horse standing by the side of the road and when they got closer, the man realized it was his favorite horse from his youth. the horse greeted him with much joy. so the three companions continued down the road. after a while they came to a splendid high gilded gate. it was the kind of gate everyone imagines they will see at the entrance to Heaven. the man called out to the gatekeeper, "Can I and my animals enter? We have been walking for a while. My animals are thirsty and need a drink." The gatekeeper replied, "Sir you are welcome to come in but we do not allow animals here." The old man was very surprised at this and said, "If my animals are not welcome then neither am I. Good day to you." And so the old man and his animal companions continued walking down the road. After a while they came to an old wooden gate. It was the kind of rough old gate you see at the entrance to farms and ranches. A farmer stood near the gate. "Hello", said the old man, "do you have any water? My animal friends are hot and thirsty." The farmer smiled and opened wide the gate. "Yes, we have plenty of water for your friends. All are welcome here." "Thank you", said the old man. "What is this place?" And the farmer (who was really an Angel) replied, "Why this is Heaven," he replied. So the old man said, "Oh, I thought that place down the road with the fancy gate was Heaven, but they wouldn't let my animals enter." So the Angel replied, "That was Hell." So the old man, his dog and his horse entered Heaven together.

this story comes from memory and is not word for word accurate. but you get the message. all the animals go to Heaven. And so do the people who love them.
