Not Just a Dog
by Patsy Sutton.........................................
Why so sad? She was only a dog.
My heart and soul scream no.
She was my companion, my friend, my confidante.
She listened to my secrets. She comforted me when I hurt.
She was always glad to see me and missed me if I was gone.

I miss her greeting at the door.
Miss her footsteps behind me wherever I go.
I miss watching her chase a toy.
Miss seeing her beg for a treat.
Most of all, I miss her love.

I will miss her accepting whatever I had to do to her, even when it hurt.
Her willingness to wag her tail and lick my hand no matter what.
She was a sweet and gentle dog. I loved her.
She is sorely missed.
