Molly
by Raymond Cornell.........................................
Molly was my best friend.
She was a rescue dog and was the daughter of my friend MayBeth. I had the honour of meeting Molly in 2007 when she was 8 years old.
After a while, both Molly and MayBeth came to live with me. I had dogs in my days as a youngster but had honestly forgotten how wonderful these creatures can be.
Molly and I would play downstairs; I would lightly tap her nose and she would growl and curl her lip at me, facing straight ahead, but keeping her eyes looking sideways at me to make sure I was not going to 'attack' her again.
We would chase each other around the couch down stairs.
Molly had such a special spirit-everyone in our neighbourhood knew, and loved Molly. On walks Molly would go up to people she did not know and introduce herself with a lowered head and a wag of her tail, she liked everyone and figured everyone would like her. And they did.
When MayBeth would come home, Molly would pick up her bone and 'talk' to MayBeth.
Molly adored children, and would always want to go see them when they were on the monkey bars in the park. The children in the crescent all knew and loved Molly.
People waling down the street towards us would look at her and say 'what a beautiful dog, can I per her?' and Molly would make a new friend.
Molly loved to chase rabbits and squirrels, but if one of them had ever stopped running, she would have stopped too, she just liked to make them run.
Molly liked cats
While I know Molly loved me and knew I would care for her, she was MayBeths' girl; I never got the tail wags and the fuss made over me when I came home that MayBeth received. It was always very touching, and I was always a bit jealous.
Molly was the Queen of the crescent, all the other dogs deferred to her.
Molly was a beautiful dog, a very smart dog,and a brave dog.
I got hurt at work, very badly, and after a long hospital stay came home and lived downstairs in a hospital bed. Molly watched over me every day-at first she did not understand why I could not play with her, but then she realized I was hurt. Hers was the last face I saw at night, and the first one I saw in the morning.
During the day she would lay beside my bed in the space between the bed, and the couch, the one I used to chase her around.
Molly had a bad attack of vestibular disease a month after I came home and after that, we watched over each other. She was never herself again after that.
Ultimately MayBeth and Molly moved back to their original home, but I was able to go and visit them.
Molly had started to limp badly in her right front shoulder and was losing weight
On Tuesday morning, Nov 20, 2012, I got a tearful call from MayBeth saying Molly was sick and could I come right away. We knew we could not even consider keeping her with us.
Molly passed into the grace of God at 9:10 am that morning-it was a beautiful, sunny warm morning. God was happy Molly was coming to him
Molly was an angel on four paws.
Molly was my best friend.
MayBeths' and my, lives, are so empty now and the world seems like a slightly colder place without her in it.
We miss her, but we know she is in a wonderful place now and waits for us.
