Reggie the rat
by Reggie Coleman.........................................
The day we brought reggie it was only few weeks since my darling rolo had died! Me my mum and sister all went to pets at home looking for a new little furry friend! We ended up coming back with two.... Ronnie and reggie were two inseparable roo's! Reggie defiantly relied on ronnie for alot! Reggie being an albeno was hard of sight so when it cam to getting around in unfamiliar places he would stick to Ron IRS side like glue! They got through four cages! The first lasted a meer two weeks because of retried great escape! We moved them into the garden shed with scooby and shaggy and on returning to feed them the next day I found Retford favourite hiding place (a tunnel going around the outside if his cage) had fallen apart! Leaving a nervous ronnie alone in the cage slightly perplexed and a shaking reggie alone on the outside! This was the last time reggie ventured into the great out doors! From then on he started his love affair with his hamock and bedding fluf! Then came the second and third cage! One summer I went down the garden and got the two of them out! Reggie had developed a lump on his back! We rushed him to the vets along with scooby and shaggy (to get them neutered), the Timor was removed but reggie had to stay a day or two for an operation! This is when I knew reggie and ronnie were insperable, ronnie had got himself so worked up over missing reggie that he'd fallen off the top of his cage and damaged his paws and nails trying to catch himself! So he was off to the vet too (expensive month fir mum) all four of them made a swift recovery with a few antibiotics reluctantly taken and a serious amount of cuddles and treats! A year or so passed and winter came! So did a hard time for both me and reg! Ronnie had developed an infection leaving him very reliant on me! He was slowly getting weaker so in a desperate attempt to keep him with us we moved the two of them into the house and put him on antibiotics and nursed him constantly for just over a week! Butbit got to a point where the antibiotics wernt doing enough and it was too much of an effort to eat and drink! So fir a few days we suringed him food and water in again a desperate attempt to keep him with us and get him better! But my poor little ronnie was too weak, and after a final cuddle his body gave in and he died in my arms. That week before that devastating event the two boys had to be separated to stop reggie getting the infection. But nevertheless reggie Stayed as close as he could get to ronnie, glued to the right hand side of his box. It was a had few months, but reggie moved into the house perminantly and soon got back to his naughty self! No doubt he loved the extra attention. He was such a caring boy, during another hard time his cuddles helped me through with a smile. Another year passed and reggie aged three! The oldest ratty we,ve had! Each morning I'd wake up and see him perk up to the side of the cage to say hello, he had a regular intake of tea and bananas as I could never resist that sweet little plead ing look on his face! Reggie was a hit with my friends! All the girls loved him! Mellane especially, those two always seemed inseparable! Then reggies age started ri catch up with him! A tumor developed on his spine but this time he was to old to be treated and operated on, he wasnt in any pain though, the only difference was the slight difference in the use of his legs and tail, but he never once cried when examined so we kept him going, through the next 6 months reggies mobility slowly lessened and it became harder for him t get around and use his back legs, one night after returning from my mums I went upstairs to see him and his cnondition had deteriorated massively, both me and my sister knew what was coming but neither ofbus wanted to admit it. We booked him into the vet for the next day. Deep down I knew this was reggies last night with me, he had a feast of all his favourites because all I could do was make him as happy as possible. The next day Caitlin picked me up, we got reggie all ready and had one last cuddle at home before we left. Then Caitlin looked up to me and I knew she was thinking the same thing. We popped him in his box and off we went. The journey was silent, and so was the vets, I just sat there stroking him nit wanting them ti call us in, but eventually the inevitable happened and we got called through. The vet examined him and sorrowfully confirmed our thoughts. It was time to say goodbye. I just cried with him in my arms nit wanting this ti be godbye I'd gone through so much with him and it felt like a part of me being taken from me! Then in his own little way reggie todld me to pull myself together and stop being such a girl, be bit me hard, it didn't hurt ut just made us al, laugh. It was the only way reggie could go, with a laugh. I kissed him one last time and then handed him to the vet, she herself looked as if about to cry. I watched as the took him away. That was the end. I've never got another animal since. Now it's just me scooby and shaggy. Things arnt the same without reggie! He's greatly missed!

R.I.P Reggie Coleman!!!! I miss you so much baby boy! Life isnt quite the same without you! Sleep well angel! I'll love you always! Mummy xxx
