JezE
by Rita Carroll.........................................
Jezebell came into my life October 14, 2001. She was a shelter rescue who had been chained to a tree outside, beaten, rained upon, exposed to thunder and not fed or watered on a regular basis. She was brought to the shelter by some guy in a pickup truck and she was accompanied by her brother. He literally dumped them off at the shelter stating that the two of them had killed a chicken. I dare say, that they had killed the chicken for a food source. I saw my girl in the presence of ducks and all she ever did was bark for me to come and feed them. We went through a lot in the training process as she had spent one or two years outside chained to that tree. But the dog that she became was peaceful, loving, caring and totally in control of her own behavior. The story I like to tell about JezE is the bed sheet story. On my bucket list was to have high thread count Egyptian cotton sheets one day. JezE always slept on her blanket on the bed until I got those sheets. Liza Doolittle was suddenly sleeping between the pillows. On May 19, 2011 JezE went to surgery for a large tumor in her abdomen. She had been sick for about a week and the vet said she had to have surgery but the possibility that it was going to be cancer was great. He advised me that if he found cancer it would be wise to put her down while she was under anesthesia. Well, that is exactly what happened. The cancer had invaded her spleen and liver and I did not get to bring my girl home. JezE did not only overcome her own early life fears but she contributed to the rescue of many dogs who had a chance for a life that they may never have experienced but for my Jezebell. Because of my rescuing her I became active in rescuing and I do rescue transports. I even fostered a beautiful beagle. A local rescuer sent me to cage 64 at our county shelter! That is where I met a little, shabby looking and scared dog who became a beautiful angel! JezE will be missed by me, her little sister, who is also rescue, and many people who came to love this special girl. It's only been a little over 24 hours since I lost my baby and I am still filled with sadness and grief but I will never forget her or quit loving her!
