Winston

WINSTON

SOMEONE CHOSE TO CAST HIM AWAY,
HE WAS OLD AND HE WAS BLIND,
BUT HE WAS SMART HE COULD FIND HIS WAY,
THERE WAS NO NEED TO LEAVE HIM BEHIND.
WE FOUND HIM AT THAT SHELTER, THE DAY,
THEY WERE ABOUT TO PUT HIM TO SLEEP,
TOO OLD TOO SICK NO CHOICE THEY DID SAY,
SO WE TOOK HIM HOME TO KEEP.
HE HAD LOTS OF FRIENDS OUR DOGS AND OUR CATS,
TOOK HIM IN AS ONE OF THEIR OWN,
THEY SNIFFED AND THEY BARKED AND THAT WAS THAT,
WINSTON HAD FOUND A HOME.
OUR YARD IS BIG HE COULD WANDER AROUND,
HE COULDN'T SEE BUT HE SOON LEARNED,
JUST WHERE HE WAS BY SCENT AND BY SOUND,
HE LEARNED EVERY TWIST AND TURN.
THE SAME WAS TRUE INSIDE OUR ROOMS,
WE LEFT HIM HIS PATH OF CHOICE,
SOMETIMES HE'D FALL BEHIND BUT SOON,
HE LEARNED TO TRACK OUR VOICE.
HE KNEW HOW MUCH WE LOVED HIM TOO,
HE HAD A SPOT RIGHT AT OUR FEET,
WE'D ALL BE TOGETHER WHEN THE DAY WAS THROUGH,
HE HELPED TO MAKE OUR FAMILY COMPLETE.
THEN THE CANCER HE FOUGHT IT FINALLY WON,
FROM US IT TOOK HIM AWAY,
NOW AT OUR FEET WE ARE MISSING ONE,
BUT WE ARE SO GLAD FOR THE DAY,
WHEN WE FOUND WINSTON AND TOOK HIM HOME,
FOR ANOTHER YEAR TO LIVE,
WHERE LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP WAS ALL HE'D KNOWN,
IN A PLACE WHERE HE COULD GIVE,
ALL THE LOVE HE HAD LEFT IN HIS HEART,
WHERE ALL HE NEEDED WAS TIME,
WITH A FAMILY TO WHICH HE COULD BE A PART,
WHERE HE WOULD NEVER BE LEFT BEHIND.
NOW WINSTON BE HAPPY IN YOUR NEW HOME,
WHERE AGAIN YOU ARE ABLE TO SEE,
ALL OF THE PLACES YOU CHOOSE TO ROAM,
WHERE ONE DAY TOGETHER AGAIN WE'LL BE.
