Dockie will always be here...
by Sarah Lukasik.........................................
Doc was a dacshund who was bought for me and my family by my grandmother at a pet store. He was red in color and had short hair. He was always a happy and healthy puppy who loved EVERYONE! Until we moved to a new town and house when he was about 3 or 4 years old. As time went by Doc started getting nasty and had to be put in his cage when someone would come over because he looved to bite people!!! At the age of 7, Doc developed disk disease and had to be put on steriods and kept in his cage (only to come out to eat and go to the bathroom). Doc also took seizures and was put on medicine for those. He loved to spend time playing with his girlfriend Delia, and his best friend Duncan( who were both daschunds) and occasionaly picking on the newest addition Tinker(yorkie). On December 9th Doc, Delia, and Duncan all went to the vet to get their yearly shots and toe nails clipped. Doc recieved a shot that was a combo of 3 different types of medicines. On December 13th someone had thrown up but we werent sure which dog had done it because all four of them were in the room. The next day we realized Doc was moving more slowly and not walking as much. Thinking it was his back out of wack again we gave him his steroid and hoped he would get better. By Thursday he was not eating and could barely move. We called our vet on saturday and we were instructed to take him off all food and water for 12 hours and to call him back at 8:30 in the morning. We called him the next day explaining he was no better. We immedietly took him over and they did xrays and blood work because he was so pale. His blood count was down to 10 and should have been 30-50. He couldnt move. We were told he only had a 50/50 shot at living. We all walked back to say our goodbyes. As he saw us he struggled to get up and wagged his tail. They carried him into another room and I followed with my grandmother as my mother couldnt bare to see him die. I sat there holding him crying as they shaved his arm and put the needle in. Within 10 seconds Doc was gone. He was creamated and will be with us forever. We know he is in a better place but both his family, his girlfriend, his best friend, and yes even the little pain in his ass will always miss him and he will always be in our hearts.
