"For Barkley"
by Sheila Richardson.........................................
The snow has almost gone Bark, and the grass is showing through.
I bet if you were here you would be rolling in the grass too.
Oscar is lying in his spot on the grass in front of the deck.
He's enjoying the sun on his black coat, and thinking of you I expect.
There is a dog barking in a garden down the road a ways.
Oscar responds with a bark, could it be you? But no, you are far far away.
He sniffs and sniffs around the yard, I know he smells your scent.
He's been unsettled and lonely since the day you went.
I know he misses you very much, he follows me everywhere.
I am giving him twice as much love, he is now getting your share.

Sitting in the garden makes me so sad and blue.
I cannot help but remember all the times I sat here with you.
The birds are singing Bark, spring will be here soon.
I only wish that you could be with us when the trees come into bloom.
But sadly that will never be...The Angels have you...They took you from me.

Sadness overwhelms me each and every day.
Since you've been gone misery is my only friend, what more can I say.
People don't understand or even care how I feel.
They would if they had loved you as much as me, that love was for real.
You weren't just a dog, you were a friend and a pal.
You were stubborn sometimes, but so lovable, everyone could tell.
Handsome too, when you smiled I would melt.
I'm not sure if you really knew how I felt.

I'm going to keep writing, my thoughts won't go away.
But this is all for now....until another day.
