My Man Peanut
by Sophie Carlton.........................................
Even before my parents approved of me getting a pet i would dream of what kind of pet I would choose. I thought of dogs and cats and rabbits and hamsters but it would have never crossed my mind to get a rat.
When the summer of 2011 came my mother and father had told me I could have a small pet. It started with a fish then escalated to caged pets like hamsters then bunnies then gerbils.
Me and my dad visited the pet store and i held a hamster that bit me numerous times and my future pet rat. Peanut crawled on my shoulder and cuddled with me and it hit me; I want a rat! So I bought him and waited about 2 days to take him home.
When he got him and brought him home he said hello by a nip on the fingers. But we forgave him and fed him a bowl of trail-mix. The first thing he picked out to eat was a peanut and that is how he got his name.
Now all of the wacky, fun, good, silly and sad times in between, well there were just to many tell. But I will share some of them. Now there's the time when he peed on about all of my neighbors. That was a wacky memory. Then there's the time when we would hold him outside when we had nice weather and he would just curl up in our arms and enjoy the beautiful day. That was a fun time. There's the time when he had mites and we used organic powder to get read of them. That was a bad then good time. Then there was the time that we found out Peanut had arthritis and he was also dying. That was the saddest time. The night we found that out my family cried a lot.
The next morning he died. It was so heart breaking because he was the most wonderful guy on the planet to us. He was more hat just a pet he was a best friend. He was a family member. He was a joy. We loved him so much and he will always have his paw imprinted in my heart. Forever.
