Baron was adopted from HUA along with his sister Abby. He lost his home of 7 years due to financial reasons. He went thru back surgery at age 4 and healed with a funny walk. He had a heart condition. He was depressed and lonely when HUA took him and Abby in. The week before he was to go home with his neww mommy to his forever home, he cointracted a virus and got very sick. He refused to eat and lost about 4 lbs. When I (his new mommy) saw him, I choose to take him home with me even though his was not feeling good. I had to hand feed him, sometimes putting the food in his mouth and making him swallow. He followed me around the house and layed next to me throught each day. He did not give kisses or show any feelings except to follow and watch me. He went out to the yard with Stomper (our 1/2 paralyzed Dachsie that had deceided not to walk again) and put his nose under Stomper's rear end, picked him up and made him move. In just a few days of doing this, Stomper started walking again (wobbly and unsteady, but walking). Without Baron, Stomper probably would not have walked again no matter what we did. Saturday night all the other Dachsies gathered around Baron and curled into a dog pile with him and I.
On Sunday morning at 8:14 am, Baron crawled into my arms, gave me the first kiss of our association and the last kiss of his life. It was the greatest gift he had to give. In that minute, he showed love and trust to me. He then laid his head on my chest and I felt his heart stutter and thumb and without a sound, he was gone.
Baron now lies in the front yard with a rose planted nest to him (forever to be known as Baron's Rose).
In our hearts, we beleive that Baron knew he was going to go to the Brigde and he stayed long enough to make sure Abby had a loving and caring forever home and to teach Stomper to walk again. He gave his last gifts to those he loved and he will be forever loved and remembered.
13 Days were not long enough, but those 13 days were filled with an eternity of memories that will help us to carry on until we meet again.
The rears have not passed, but the joy you baron brought and the gifts he gave are living memories of such a kind and gentle little gentleman.
