My Guardian
by Stephanie Garcia.........................................
I burried my face in the safety of his shoulders
like I had so many years before,
And whispered "I'm sorry" through chocked tears.

She didn't have to tell me, I knew,
I watched the life bleed from his clouded old eyes.

I willed those eyes to shut as if
someday he could wake from this sleep.
but they refused,
Fixed on some nothingness I can not grasp.

It was all I cuold do
to clutch to his muscles,
once so strong and protective,
now little more than limp weight in my arms.
