But some of us, we know a dog
A sweetheart of a guy,
With long soft wavy tresses
Who is quiet, sweet and shy
Harley - your debonair appeal
Would never ever fail
To win our hearts - and we love you
From wet nose to fluffy tail
Unlike your brother, Scooter
Who dearly loves to roam
You are happy and content
To stick real close to home.
Sherri -- your own mommy
And you, her special boy,
Waits for her, so patiently
Greeting her with licks and joy
Your pack, your buds, your family
Vinnie, Jess, and Daddy Tod
One small cat and Scooter-guy
(who, by the way, is rather odd!)
They adore you with all their heart
And you play them with such skill.
Woo them with your chocolate eyes
Then bend them to your will.
You wear your great big canine heart
On your funny furry sleeve
Your face shows sadness, joy or worry
(Like when Sherri has to leave)
With fur-faced friends -- Cardy, PJ, Voo
You are oft aloof and haughty
For unlike little Scooter, YOU...
Are never, ever naughty.
Still, you always like to visit them
As long as you can freely go
Back across the street to home
And the folks who love you so
Strong and brave and frisky
So that no one ever knew
Their time with you had grown too short
Til 'cross the rainbow bridge you flew
This poem is in present tense
Make no mistake my friend
Your spirit lives on - ever more
Your story has no end
In doggie heaven, now you prance
Your flag-like tail does fly
Until we all can meet again...
For now, sweet boy -- Goodbye!
With love,
