Holly Girl
by Suzanne Schultz.........................................
Holly Girl came into our life in 2007. I first saw her in the road in front of our home. She was skinny and scared. We already had 3 dogs and I had no plans of haveing a fourth one. Liveing on the coast in hurricane season is bad enough, but try to evacuate with 3 dogs is a nightmare. So when Holly Girl came along I knew that I could not take her in. I knew this but my husband did not. I did however feel sorry for her and would put food out for her. She would wait for me to leave before she would go get the food. And I do mean go get the food, she took food, bowl and all. I would see her with the food bowl in her mouth running at full speed back down the road. I often wondered just how much food was left in the bowl by the time she got where she was going. It truned cold and Carl my husband would wake me up before dawn to tell me Holly Girl was at the gate. I told her that the kitchen was not open till 8 am. As christmas came around I decided she needed a name so she became Holly Girl. Still she did not trust me. I came to realize she hated the mailman, the UPS truck and the trash truck. She would try to eat the tires of the mail truck. She tried to eat the UPS driver. Then one day I saw her dragging her back leg. She was still scared of me so I could not see what was wrong with her. Later we found out she had been shot. One day I was sitting in my yard when Holly Girl walked up and lay down at my feet. I almost died. It had taken almost 6 months for this. But just the sight of my husband would send her running. Then one day I looked out the window and saw Holly Girl laying at my husbands feet. She was letting him pet her. An hour later the dog catcher came to get her. My husband told him that if noone wanted her we would take her. She moved in that day. We took her to the vets and found out she had heart worms. With the right treatmeant she made it through. She now has run of the house. You would think that I would be her favorite person, but she is in love with my husband she has to be where ever he is.
Holly Girl is a black and brown hound. She can smile better than most people. When she is outside and you call "Holly come" she will smile while running full speed into the house. She can also make this laughing sound. Yes it is still hard trying to evcaute with 4 dogs in tow. But we have done it. You meet alot of people at the rest stops with their dogs. We could never leave them behind.
Kayla is our 15 year old little chi-poodle mix. Almost blind and deaf. With heart problems and seizures.
Bump is our 4 year old little chi-fiest mix. Mean as satan.
Cheyanne is our 3 year old rottie. She is our clown.
Holly Girl is 4 and our love. She has made our family complete.
I guess the reason I am writeing this is to beg people to think about that stray you see on the road. All they want is someone to love them. Even if they are an ugly skinny brown and black hound.
