Yet ... But
Only 10 feet away from me she lies,
Yet I can not see her sweet face.
The afternoon sun gently caresses the ground,
Yet she does not feel its warmth.
A soft summer breeze gently fans my face,
Yet her beautiful mahogany hair is unruffled.
Softly, sadly, I call her name
But she does not respond to my voice.
She can not; she never will again.
Her body is beneath the ground now;
Wrapped in her favourite blanket;
Surrounded by her favourite toys;
Gently cradled in God's soft earth.
She is protected by His love now,
Yet my love for her will never wane.
Many tears will I shed in my loneliness,
Yet I rejoice as her spirit runs free.
Others will come to share my life,
Yet none will ever take her place.
It was not her beauty nor the prizes won,
But her loyal, unswerving, devotion
That captured my heart so.
My love, my life, my Lana.
