Shakana and the Bull
by Yvonne Woytus.........................................
I had 26 acres that also a a herd of 30 cows with a bull. Shakana and I would walk this pasture, her grazing and me lying next to her watching the clouds in the sky make patterns. It was getting dusk so I stood up to walk back to the barn, when I noticed Shakana left her grazing about 50 feet away and was standing next to me. I put my arms around her neck and said that was sweet of you, when I looked over her shoulder and there was the black bull coming straight toward us. BUT he had stopped and was staring at us, not moving, he eyed me, and I stared back right at him, he was like 20 feet away, and he wasn't moving just staring. Shakana turned toward him, head up, in her hot manner, which said to anyone understanding horse language, don't try it. She put her body to touch mine and we just waited, The bull turned and walked back down the hill, and I was just astounded about what just happened. She would have charged the bull, if he got any closer. She just protected me.
Shakana and I then turned and walked back to the barn together, she was never on a halter or lead rope during this whole time. .....
