Our Babies
by carol mccutcheon.........................................
We had to send our baby Sarge to Rainbow Bridge yesterday. Four years ago we lost our dogs Buck aand Bear after 16 wonderful years of ALWAYS being there and it was as if I had lost one of my own children. Anyone who ever says "it's just a dog" has never had the priviledge of having a true "best friend". When you open the door coming home from work, school, shopping, anywhere, they are standing there in anticipation with their tales just a wagging so hard they almost knock you down. When we lost Buck and Bear we said "NO
MORE" it just hurt so bad. Well my son, without asking, brought home this little ball of fur, he knew I would fall in love as soon as I saw him and would not say "no". Well this ball of fur is Rambo, my knew baby, well he had a baby and my husband fell in love with him this was Sarge. My husband toted him from the time he was first born until yesterday when he toted him in the doctors office. He was such a happy boy, he would have been 2 on my birthday in December. He was always wagging his tail and so happy to see us when we would come home, he would run up to the car licking and wagging.
We have a 2 year old grandbaby and he would walk right beside her and was always so gentle with her, she would give him a snack and he would just barely take it out of her hand letting me know just how fragile he knew she was. He even had respect for his daddy Rambo, even though he grew to be twice his daddy's size he never bowed up to him, as most males will do. Please make sure you keep your babies close to you, Sarge got out of our fence and somehow he got into some antifreeze and watching him have his seizure was more than I could bear. We take things for granted sometimes that everyone is as carefull as you are, well they are not and don't think twice about leaving things laying around. When we left the doctor they had him in a box that looked just like a beautiful casket and had flowers. It is so nice to know and see that people really understand how much your "best friend" really means to you, no they are not just dogs, cats, birds, bunnnies, etc. I am so thankful for the founder of this web site because there are people out there who are truly lost without there best friend and being able to share it with others who know how you feel means more than you will ever know.
